Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor has released ten studio albums : The Lion and the Cobra (1987), I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (1990), Am I Not Your Girl? (1992), Universal Mother (1994), Faith and Courage (2000), Sean-Nós Nua (2002), Throw Down Your Arms (2005), Theology (2007), How About I Be Me (and You Be You)? (2012), and I'm Not Bossy, I'm the Boss (2014). The extended play Gospel Oak (1997) and live album Live at the Sugar Club (2008) were issued as well. Her compilations consist of five sets— So Far... “[My mother] ran a torture chamber,” O’Connor claimed. “She was a person who took delight and a smile in hurting you. … We used to be terrified. The last day of school in summer was the most unhappy day of our lives. Every other kid in school would be delighted, we’d be hiding the hockey sticks and tennis rackets [she used to beat us with], crying because we were stuck with her for the summer.”

The song was also a big college radio hit in the US . In 1988, O'Connor sang "Mandinka" on Late Night with David Letterman , [6] in what was her first US network television appearance. She also sang the song live at the 1989 Grammy Awards.

She had her third child, Shane in 2004 while married to musician Donal Lunny. Her fourth child, Yeshua, was born in 2006 to American father Frank Bonadio.
